A man crouches on a plastic-covered floor in a room with brick walls and bamboo wall covering, inspecting a large beige canvas or fabric laid out on the floor. There are some white wooden planks and circular objects nearby, with an industrial metal duct running along the ceiling and a staircase leading to an upper level.
A middle-aged man with gray hair and beard wearing large black glasses and a black coat, standing outdoors on a street with cars and trees in the background.

About IKE QUIRK

Contemporary Artist

Based in Ireland

Ike is a self-taught contemporary artist with a strong focus on expressionism. His work continuously explores color theory, composition and mixed media techniques. His practice is deeply rooted in the expressive use of color. Through sweeping tonalities and evocative forms, his work is guided by emotion, seeking to translate the intensity of human experience onto the canvas. He employs a dynamic layering process to create depth and movement between each piece to evolve organically in response to its theme.

His work has been exhibited in Ireland, France, Spain and Germany.

“In Ike’s painting process, there is no intention of representing anything concrete, but rather of exploring the intangible: colour, texture, space. His work is overtly abstract and non-representational, but his method brings him close to conceptual painting. He follows specific instructions he sets for himself: write a meaningful phrase, cover it with layers of colour, work the background, apply intense pigment gestures. Layer by layer, the image reveals itself—along with something deeper: a lived experience, a connection, an emotion.”
